The
Writers' Room of Boston has provided affordable, quiet, and
safe workspace to writers in downton Boston since it was founded in
1988. The Writers’ Room is governed by its members and board
of directors. The board of directors
is made up of member writers
and community leaders.

The Room is supported by
quarterly membership fees and contributions from public and private
sources. Outside
sources provide more than half of the operating expenses of the
Room. The Room is
funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and has received a grant
from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of its Emerging
Writers Initiative. The
Morris S. Smith Foundation, the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation,
and the Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation have funded this project
as well. Donations to the Writers’ Room are tax-deductible.
Mission
Statement
To
promote the creation of literature by providing affordable, quiet,
and secure workspace for Boston area writers. To stimulate broader
public interest in literature through the work produced in the
Writers’ Room and through free public readings and other literary
events.
